September 2026: Getting Ahead of Fall Germs

The backpacks are packed, the routines are back, and so are the germs. Every fall, the same conversation starts in my inbox. Someone in the house is sick, then everyone is, and it feels like there is no way to stay ahead of it.

Here is what I want you to sit with this month: the germs are not new. What changes every fall is how much load your body is already carrying when they show up. Shorter days. Disrupted sleep. A calendar that filled back up overnight. For someone already managing fatigue, inflammation, or hormonal shifts, that is not a mild inconvenience. That is a system running on reserve right when demand goes up.

Your gut is doing more than you think

Roughly seventy percent of your immune function lives in your gut. When digestion is already inflamed or out of balance, your body is not just fighting off what is going around, it is fighting that battle without its main line of defense fully staffed. This is why the same cold can knock one person flat for two weeks and barely touch someone else.

Three shifts worth making this week

Food: Add one fermented food daily, plain yogurt, kefir, or sauerkraut. These all feed the bacteria your immune system depends on.

Sunlight: Get outside within an hour of waking, even for ten minutes. As daylight shortens, this becomes the piece people drop first, and the one their body misses most.

Sleep: Protect the thirty minutes before bed. No screens, dim lights. This single change does more for immune resilience than most supplements on your shelf.

If you are ready to look deeper

If this is the season where you are done guessing and want to actually see what is driving the fatigue or the inflammation, a good next step is a real look at gut function rather than another round of symptom management. Our six month program starts there, using GI mapping to get a clear picture of your gut bacteria, digestion, and inflammation markers, since seventy percent of your immune function lives right there.

Anita's Bloom Partners

I am building a growing list of people I trust completely and refer my own clients to without hesitation. These are not paid placements, they are hand picked because I have seen their work firsthand and believe in what they offer. As the list grows, I will eventually spotlight one partner each month. For now, please welcome the first two.

Steve McCann, Founder, Pathwalker Quantum Healing LLC (Rochester, MN). Steve works with people who have already done the inner work, therapy, coaching, spiritual study, and still feel a gap between what they understand and how they actually live. As founder of Pathwalker Quantum Healing, he guides clients through that gap using an integration focused approach that draws on Reiki, Quantum Shifting, and shamanic practice built over a twelve year apprenticeship. He is a Usui Reiki Master, trained through the AWAKE School of Energy Medicine, and the author of Return to Yourself: A Journey Back to Your Inner Spirit.

Steve also hosts the Pathwalker Monthly Circle, a free virtual gathering held the first Wednesday of every month from 7:00 to 8:30 PM CST. Each Circle blends short teaching on integration and embodied change with guided group practice, space to move insight into lived experience, together. Signup is required in advance so the Client Bill of Rights and Terms and Conditions can be reviewed and signed before attending. Amy Kinkade, Owner, Kinkade Bookkeeping LLC. Amy has spent more than twenty years working with small business finances, and if there is one thing she has learned, it is that good bookkeeping is about more than getting the numbers right. Your books tell the story of what is happening in your business, and Amy helps small business owners keep that story accurate and organized, taking the time to explain what the numbers mean so they are useful, not just correct.
